KIDS YOGA TEACHER TRAINING FAQ

Please Note: this FAQ page relates to our Kids Yoga Teacher Training programs designed for those wanting to train to teach yoga to children. If you have a question about our after school kids or family classes, our Yoga in Schools Program or our Vacation Care Yoga Programs you can contact us here with your query.

I am not currently a yoga teacher. Can I do this training?
Yes. This training is open to both people doing it as their first yoga teacher training and to experienced yoga teachers who want specialised training in Kids and Family Yoga.

Will I receive a certificate?
You will receive a certificate on competition of the course. Please note you need to attend the entire course to receive the certificate and must not miss more than 30 minutes of the training.

How does this course compare to other kids yoga teaching courses?
Yoga Kids S.A.'s 3 day teacher training is similar to other 3 day teacher trainings available in that it is a specialised intensive course over 3 days that covers what is needed to become a kids yoga teacher.

Yoga Kids S.A. initially developed this course  so we could ensure the quality and consistency  of the training teachers teaching for Yoga Kids S.A. had received.  We had found some other kids yoga teacher trainings that potential teachers had completed focused on 'playing yoga', which we have found is not suitable to delivering yoga for kids in many setting, particularly in schools. Our approach embodies a joyful, playful approach, but woven in with lots of solid & rigorous content that school teachers and parents expect. Our experience has shown that kids are capable of quite a lot more regarding yoga than you may expect

A big point of difference is our training is delivered by the person who wrote the training (Lindy Pulsford), rather than a trainee. Lindy is also trained Mindfulness teacher which informs her approach to teaching kids (& this is particularly valued by schools and parents). Additionally she is a practicing full time kids and family yoga teacher & have studied the benefits of yoga and mindfulness with kids at a Master level & applied it in therapeutic settings etc.

Additionally our training is clearly divided into 12 Modules. The feedback we have had from students (including those who have attended our course & other kids yoga trainings) is that it is a particularly well structured and organised course that packs in a lot of content with a good mix of theory and practice.

I am already an adults Yoga Teacher, can I use this training for CPD?
Yes, if you are already a registered yoga teacher (ie. you have completed an Adults 200-350 hour Yoga Teacher Training) you can use this training towards Continued Professional Development points with Yoga Australia. Please note registration with Yoga Australia is voluntary for yoga teachers.

Can you offer me work after the training?

For participants of our Adelaide Teacher Trainings there may be opportunities for Graduates to apply to teach within Yoga Kids S.A.'s programs.

Do I need to be part of an association to teach yoga?
No, membership of any yoga teacher organisations is voluntary for yoga teachers. The is no 'governing body' of yoga or kids yoga that yoga teachers must join. There are several organisations that yoga teachers who have done a full adults yoga teacher training of 200-350 hours may choose to join. They all charge yearly membership fees, are privately run and while many do good work they do not hold any regulatory power.

Do I need to do further training after I complete your training?
No, but you may choose to depending on what you have done previously and how you decide to use the teacher training. You will receive a certificate on competition of the course (provided you do not miss more than 30minutes of the course), however if you wish to go down the path of become a fully accredited yoga teacher than you would need to also complete a regular 200/350hr Adults Yoga teacher training. This is not suitable or necessary for everyone - it really depends what you want to do with it.

We strongly encourage & support everyone doing the teacher training to put into practice what they have learnt by starting teaching classes (either formally or informally to your kids or friends kids) as soon as possible after completing the training.
Many of the people taking the training are not certified yoga teachers. They use the training as the start of their yoga teaching career in a number of ways including;

  • integrating yoga teaching with their current profession. eg. educator, kindy teacher, school teacher, physio, occupational therapist, social worker, meditation teacher, disability worker etc. (Some may go on to create specialist classes such as yoga for people with special needs etc).
  • to teach Junior age brackets.
  • to start teaching informally to friends and family
  • to create a kids & family yoga practice to use to connect with their kids & share the benefits of yoga with their family.
  • to develop their own yoga practice & understanding of yoga
  • use it to test the waters with a smaller commitment to see if they like yoga teaching before committing to a longer general teacher training.

If you decide to become a full time yoga teacher then you should plan to periodically continue to your professional development throughout your career with various ongoing trainings such as this one, in order to be the best teacher you can be.

Do I need to attend all 3 days?

To receive a certificate at the end of the training you need to attend all three days and not miss more than 30 minutes of the training.

I have an injury. Will I be able to complete this training?
We have had people complete the course with injuries before and it has not been a problem. The course is a mixture of theory and practical. Any involvement in the practical aspects of the course you can manage around your injury and choose to observe/take notes of a practical exercise if it's not suitable for you. You do need to be confident to take full responsibility for keeping yourself safe and knowing what movements your body can and can't do. Please contact us to discuss if you are not sure.

Who is running the training?
The training is jointly presented by YOGA KIDS S.A. and the Kids Yoga Teacher Training Academy (www.kytta.com.au). It is delivered by the director of Yoga Kids S.A., Lindy Pulsford

What are the qualifications and training of the facilitator?
Please see the bio of our our principle teacher and director of Yoga Kids S.A, Lindy Pulsford

I've never done yoga before - can I do this training?

It is best you first experience yoga a little yourself before learning to teach others.
